WOW!

In everything we do, we believe that authentic and relevant learning is the foundation for meaningful lives as Jews and in the world. That's why CJEL developed WOW - to bring Jewish education out of the classroom and into a world of possibilities. Grounded in experiential education, WOW! programs and projects encourage students to learn by doing.

WOW! in a Box

Over 25 Jewish educators in Greater Hartford have participated in WOW! in a Box trainings, sharing exciting STEM/STEAM projects that reinforce Jewish values with more than 450 local children. Each participating educator receives a complete program kit with materials for 10 students and a modest stipend on completion of the training session.

WOW! in a Box kits include a lesson plan with sources, activity materials, classroom posters, project instructions, a shopping list, take-home pages for students, and suggestions for extending the activity to reinforce STEM/STEAM concepts. Recent kits and trainings include:

  • In a Pickle: Making jars of pickles highlights Sukkot symbols and the idea of extending the harvest
  • Be the Light: Building our own pocket flashlights leads to an exploration of self-identity and Hanukkah themes
  • When Marshmallows Fly: Constructing marshmallow catapults  demonstrates the value of Ometz Lev, courage of the heart!
  • Are We There Yet? Our Passover journey to freedom includes building with LEGO®, racing toy cars, and sampling tasty treats

In addition to offering specialized programming, we serve as a resource to educators in the Greater Hartford community, offering curriculum enrichment options and hands-on methodology.

Consulting

WOW! also connects schools to community resources and creates customized programs to meet specific community needs.
